Unless there is a goal, purpose, meaning, life becomes void and meaningless.
Purpose - the word that lies at the center of every man's need.
Example: A dog was shipped by train to a certain destination. While being transported, he chewed
up his destination tag. He and the railroad attendants knew he was going somewhere, but no one knew
where. A little food and attention kept the dog happy, but man is not this way. He must have a purpose
and a destination. (Outside of Christ, man has neither).
Jesus had a purpose - John 18:17.
The Christian must answer the question "Why are we here?" Before we can know our destination
we must find our purpose. In this lesson, let's try and find our purpose.
WE ARE HERE TO BELIEVE SOMETHING.
What we believe is the most important factor in our lives.
Determines how big or small in character we are.
Determines how positive or negative we are.
Determines how moral or immoral we are.
Determines how we live and how we die.
Some people think that anything they believe is acceptable as long as they are sincere.
Saul was sincerely wrong - I Timothy 1:12-16.
Hitler was sincerely wrong - a threat to world peace.
What we believe shapes our character and everyday life.
What then are we to believe?
In ONE true God - Acts 17:22-31 (28).
Without a belief in God, life is useless.
In the gospel.
Incarnation, crucifixion, resurrection, ascension, second coming of Christ.
In being SAVED (assurance).
Do not fear the word "saved."
I John 5:13; Acts 2:47.
In the CHURCH of Jesus Christ.
Daniel 2:44 - never destroyed.
Matthew 16:18 - Jesus built.
Acts 2:47 - added to.
Ephesians 5:23 - Christ is its Savior.
WE ARE HERE TO BECOME SOMETHING.
Every Christian should be a miniature Christ.
Philippians 1:20 - magnify Christ.
II Corinthians 3:18 - (Phillips) - "But all of us who are Christians... reflect like mirrors the glory of the Lord."
Become like Christ in the "New Birth" - John 3:3-5.
Become like Christ studying His Word:
Ephesians 4:15 - grow up, mature.
WE ARE HERE TO BE GRATEFUL FOR SOMETHING AND SHARE IT.
What we believe and are becoming, by God's grace obligates us to speak to others.
Andrew - found Peter - "Brought him to Jesus" - John 1:42.
Our greatest challenge is to bring others to Jesus.
Our Christianity must be taken out of the building and applied in the community.
