TRUTH
INTRODUCTION:
The purpose of this lesson is to broaden our concepts and understanding of what TRUTH is.
Our concept of truth seems to revolve around a "system".
The "system" concept is not totally wrong but it takes away the "person" of Jesus from our message.
Truth - ALETHEIA - signifies the reality lying at the basis of the appearance.
Today, let's study together and try to broaden our concept and understanding of what and WHO truth is.
LOVE THE TRUTH.
II Thessalonians 2:10 - 12 (13,14).
Here the "truth" is seen to be the good news presentation.
The question is, "Was he dealing with a system or a message?"
The "truth" being referred to here is the second coming of Jesus - (2:1ff).
One of the fundamentals of Christianity.
OBEY THE TRUTH.
Galatians 5:7 - (1-7).
Note to whom this is written: Christians, those who had been "running well."
To turn away from a message (the gospel) and embrace a "system" is to disobey truth.
SPEAK THE TRUTH.
Ephesians 4:15 - (12-16).
Here "truth" stands in opposition to the doctrines of men.
Note: verse 15 - how "truth" (doctrine) revolves around Jesus. (v.12-13) - designed to make one full-grown.
Truth grows one in the direction of Jesus; thus it must have been based in Jesus Himself.
TRUTH WAS GIVEN BY THE HOLY SPIRIT.
John 16:13-14.
Even here Jesus speaks of truth that revolves around Him.
All of the questions raised here are about Jesus - see v. 7ff).
TRUTH LIBERATES.
John 8:32 - not "the Word".
See v. 24-32.
John 14:6.
Ephesians 4:21 - freedom from empty lives.
OBTAIN TRUTH AT ALL COST.
Proverbs 23:23 - "Buy the truth and sell it not..."
CONCLUSION:
Is truth just a system, a form, a ritual for you?
Is your salvation based upon, built upon and revolving around Jesus?
