THE RELEVANCY OF THE BOOK
OF REVELATION TO TODAY'S CHRISTIAN
Of any book that has been purposely overlooked, Revelation is it.
It can't be understood.
It is a different language than we are used to, therefore it is obscure.
It speaks about future or past events but has nothing to say for today's Christian.
Today, let's discuss THE RELEVANCY OF THE BOOK OF REVELATION TO TODAY'S CHRISTIAN
in order to see for ourselves that it needs to be contextually taught more often.
IT PRESENTS JESUS AS THE ONLY LORD.
A much needed scene for the church today.
Jesus is LORD:
Revelation presents Jesus as the ONLY Lord.
When we understand the Lordship of Jesus and make Him the center of our
lives, we will be pleasing to God.
IT PRESENTS JESUS AS A FRIEND OF THE CHURCH.
Many picture Jesus as our enemy or one who is never on friendly terms with us.
Jesus speaks to the 7 churches of Asia Minor and urges them to get right and stay right. (As a friend).
Ephesus - 2:1-7.
Authority to speak - v. 1.
Commendation - v. 2, 3, 6.
Condemnation - v. 4.
Remedy - v. 5a.
Consequence - v. 5b.
Preventive measure - v. 7.
Jesus' friendship to the church presented elsewhere:
IT PRESENTS JESUS AS A MIGHTY WARRIOR BATTLING OUR GREATEST ENEMY --- AND HE WINS.
Revelation 16:12-16 - Satan recruits his army.
Revelation 19:11-18 - Jesus and His army ready.
Revelation 19:19-21 - war won in one verse (20).
POINT: We will win with Jesus every time.
IT PRESENTS THE PRECIOUS NATURE OF THE CHURCH.
A new place - v. 1.
A new people - v. 2-4.
Everything new in this new place - v. 5-8.
A vision of the New Jerusalem, the church - 21:9-22:5.
Revelation 21:9 - "Come hither, I will show thee the bride, the wife of the
Lamb." (Note carefully what is being seen here.)
Protected city - v. 12 - church offers such protection.
Abundant entrances - v. 12-13 - enter from any walk of life.
Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15-16.
Great foundation - v. 14 - church has the same foundation.
Abundant room - v. 15-17 - church has abundant room.
John 14:1-2. (House I Timothy 3:15).
Indescribably beautiful, pure - v. 18-21 - church has the same qualities.
Ephesians 5:27 - without spot, wrinkle, blemish.
Perfection in worship - v. 22-24 - no temple.
Isaiah 2:1-4 - "All nations shall walk into it..."
Eternal peace - v. 25-27 - church has such peace.
Perfect provision - 22:1-4 - church is such a place.
The book of Revelation has its own contextual setting and historical setting,
but it is relevant today.
It is a book that should be labored over to understand. It should be preached.
THE BOOK OF REVELATION IS TRULY RELEVANT TO TODAY'S CHRISTIAN.
