Self-control is one of the qualities in which God knew many of us would be lacking.
We normally consider self-control in connection with our anger. This runs much deeper than this one area. It speaks to:
Self-control - EGKRATEIA - one holding control, or holding in; temperance. Strong,
stout, master of self.
In our world this word, also called temperance, has taken the meaning of abstaining
from strong drink. If this is how one uses the word exclusively it will be difficult
to understand its meaning. EGKRATEIA is a much broader word than that. It involves
self-control in every area of life.
THE CHARACTER OF SELF-CONTROL.
It is not:
Being a stoic.
Just being stern.
Grinning and bearing it.
It is when my total being comes under the leadership of Christ. We become "men
