QUALITIES OF A CHRISTIAN SERIES A Study of Second Peter 1:5-9 INTRODUCTION Lesson One of Eight
INTRODUCTION:
II Peter 1:5-9 has often been titled "The Christian Graces."
These are qualities that when added to our faith, makes us a tower of strength
to those with whom we are in contact each day.
The purpose of these virtues or graces are:
Positive: II Peter 1:8, 10 - 11 - (THOSE WITH THEM)
Keep you from being ineffective.
Keep you from being unproductive.
"In your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ..."
Make your calling and election sure - v. 10.
You will never fall - v. 10.
You will receive a rich welcome into the Eternal Kingdom.
Negative: II Peter 1:9 - (THOSE WITHOUT THEM).
He is nearsighted.
Blind.
Forgotten that he has been cleansed.
These qualities are so necessary because we are partakers in the Divine Nature
and have escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
A very important phrase: "Make every effort to add to your faith..." - v. 5.
Add to - supply - EPICHOREGESATE - from (CHOREGOS - chorus - leader and HEGEOMAI -
to lead), to fit out the chorus with additional (complete) supplies. Supply what
it takes to make beautiful music.
Spend a lot of time here... this is critical to the outcome of this study.
To the purpose of being more like Jesus and seeing more of what is there for each
of us, let's study these lessons with a strong and dedicated desire to improve our
lives and our relationship with the Lord.
