PROVIDENCE: GOD'S WORKING IN PEOPLE'S LIVES
All through the Bible God is seen in His workings in the lives of people.
We often study the Old Testament like it is a dead letter about an inactive God.
Our lives are not lived unto ourselves.
Every choice, move or action we take, good or bad, is used and/or directed by God to accomplish His will.
In this lesson, let's try to associate God's providential working of the past with our lives in the present.
Providence (as we use it) is not actually a Biblical term.
Acts 24:2 - foresight - used of Felix, governor.
Our definition: God's working behind the scenes to produce the results to accomplish His will.
SOME BIBLICAL EXAMPLES OF PROVIDENCE, GOD'S WORKING.
Joseph - Genesis 37-50.
Prepared for the family of Israel, nation.
Bondage gave the Israelite nation a reason to leave Egypt.
Judgment on the Canaanites.
Moses - Exodus 1-3.
Protected in birth.
Raised in Pharaoh's household.
Provided leadership for the slaves - Israel.
Jews and Romans - Acts 2:22ff.
Crucified Jesus both by the Jew and the Roman.
Instructed by Gamaliel.
Zealous in the Jew's religion - Galatians 1:14.
Prepared for his commission - Acts 9:15.
His prejudice - Galatians 2:11ff.
His stay with Dorcas - Acts 9:32-42.
Prepared him to receive the vision - Acts 10:9-18.
Prepared him to go to Cornelius - Acts 10:19-48 - the Gentiles.
WHAT ABOUT US TODAY?
Has God ceased His working?
Is He still as powerful as He was in these examples?
Example: Dan Helms family.
Look at your life.
God has always worked in the lives of individuals and nations.
He still does!
Following His will demands that we watch His workings.
When God works - we should listen.
