THE POWER OF THE RESURRECTION
Brief survey of the Gospel.
Matthew 28:1-10 - READ.
The resurrection was bodily.
I Thessalonians 5:23 - God came to save total man.
The resurrection of the BODY is a fact, not fiction.
When one understands that there is "Life after death," then for him there is POWER in his life.
The resurrection of Jesus is "powerful" to our lives.
Today let's notice the power of the Resurrection and how that power relates to us.
POWER TO HOPE.
Romans 8:23-25 - something to look forward to.
"Hope" - desire with earnest expectation.
Give death another dimension.
POWER TO COMFORT SELF AND BRETHREN.
John 11 - turned a funeral into joy and comfort.
I Thess. 4:13-18.
Rumor said, "If you die before Jesus comes, too bad, you missed out."
Much sorrow for those dead brethren.
Lived in a world that "denied" life after death.
Greeks scoffed at the resurrection - saw the body only as a dead body ( Acts 17:32 ).
Sadducces denied a resurrection of a dead body - ( Acts 23:8 ).
"Wherefore comfort one another with these words." - I Thess. 4:18.
POWER TO ENDURE.
II Timothy 2:11-13 - life after death keeps us going.
All Christians will have to suffer.
II Timothy 3:12.
Power for the apostles, also for us.
II Cor. 1:6-10.
Power to serve in the face of danger.
I Cor. 15:30-32.
POWER TO REMAIN MORALLY PURE.
I Cor. 15:33.
NOTE: This verse sits almost in the CENTER of a context that discusses the
resurrection of the body - it MUST relate to the resurrection.
I Cor. 6:12-20.
Greeks placed "sex" under liberty.
Man has an appetite for food - God supplied.
Man has an appetite for sex - God supplied.
The meat for the belly, the woman for the man.
They placed sex (which is bound by law) on the same plane as food, (morally indifferent).
POINT - you don't mix the eternal body with immorality.
Matt. 10:28 - "And be not afraid of them that kill the body, but are not able to kill
the soul: but rather fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell."
POWER TO PROCLAIM.
II Cor. 4:12-14.
When we believe the promise, we will proclaim.
Death may be the result - God will raise us up.
Proclaim victory over death.
I Cor. 15:50-58.
POWER TO SAVE.
I Cor. 15:1-4.
Raised - to save our bodies.
The core of the Apostolic Gospel was the resurrection of the body.
Must die with Jesus - v. 2-3.
Must be raised like Jesus - v. 4.
Will be raised like Jesus later - v. 5.
The resurrection has POWER.
Do you have its power to:
Why don't you re-enact his death, burial, and resurrection today?
