THE NEED OF MAN
God created man - (Genesis 1 & 2)
Body - I Corinthians 6:19.
Soul - Hebrews 4:12.
Spirit - I Corinthians 2:11.
His character - (as created)
Innocent and Holy.
Ignorant and Cognizant (knowledge by experience) of only God.
Know only good.
His environment - (Garden of Eden)
Probation - dress garden.
Prohibition - don't eat.
Provocation - provoked - man made choice.
They ate - (thus started dying).
The Need - 5 Facts to Bring Us Back to God.
RIGHTEOUSNESS - "JUSTIFICATION" - (JUST AS IF I HAD NO SIN)
Man must be made holy.
A Holy God could not embrace an unholy man.
Two ways to be right:
MERIT - (could NEVER be wrong)
Romans 3:23 - "All men fall short..."
Romans 6:23 - "...wages of sin is death."
IMPUTATION - (God makes man - declares him a new creature) - Romans 4:9-17.
Initially - at baptism - Acts 2:38.
Progressively - growth - Colossians 2.
PROPITATION - (SATISFACTION)
Wrath of God is a reality.
Numbers 11:33 - smote people with plague.
God's wrath based on righteousness.
Leviticus 10 - Nadab & Abihu.
Uzziah & the Ark.
REDEMPTION - (DELIVERANCE AT A PRICE)
Example: first fruits, first born could be redeemed or bought back.
We are redeemed from:
Penalty of sin - Matthew 1:21 - "And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shall
call his name Jesus; for it is he that shall save the people from their sins."
Vanity of life - I Peter 1:18ff.
Life without Christ is empty.
There is no purpose.
The Curse of the Law - Galatians 3:13ff.
Break it in one point.
RECONCILIATION - (TO RECEIVE ONE INTO FAVOR)
II Corinthians 5:19-20 - Change of attitude.
Reflection of this attitude (I Peter 3:8-12)
Has two outlooks:
Subjectively - looks on with wrath.
Objectively - looks on us with favor.
SANCTIFICATION - (TO SANCTIFY OR TO MAKE HOLY)
Initially Sanctified - (I Peter 1:2, I Corinthians 1:2) - addressed to saints, the brethren.
Been bought by the blood of Christ.
Romans 6:19, 22-23.
Hebrews 12:10, 14.
These passages urge a saint to continue in holiness.
All of the points tie together with baptism.
This is focusing point.
This is part we do to show God our heart is right.
Steps involved - (Hear & Believe)
Repentance - Acts 3:19 - "Repent ye therefore, and turn again that your sins may be blotted out, so that there may come seasons of refreshing from the presence of the Lord."
Confession - (of what?) Romans 10:8-10.
Jesus as Lord.
Believing that God raised Him from the dead.
Baptism - (command of God) Matthew 28:19-20.
It is a burial. Romans 6:4.
For remission of sins. Acts 2:38.
Places one in Christ. Romans 6:3.
Produces new life. Romans 6:4.
Christian life must be continuous.
We can't just be once a week bench warmers.
Abide in Christ. John 15:6.
Faith without works is dead. James 2:14-26.
Christian is God's workmanship. Ephesians 2:10.
