THE MAJESTY OF GOD Lesson One of Nine GOD IS MAJESTIC
We live in such a "power society," consumed by our personal "rights," "equal"
with all men, "free" to live, to come and go as we please, that we have a difficult time, as a
society or as individuals, understanding and regarding Majesty.
We are such a self-serving society that we, except for a few, cannot feel a "need" for someone
greater than ourselves, even though we might even be a believer.
It is most difficult for us to understand slavery, though we are removed from the experience in our
country by only a few generations.
Because we are a society so bent on proving our "power," our "freedom," our
"rights," and our "self-sufficiency," we cannot find a place to stand in awe
of one greater than ourselves.
At the top of the lighthouse one stands face to face and admires the light. In the dark dungeon below,
one stands in the darkness looking up in awe at its brightness. The light is no different. It is
where we are standing that makes the difference.
So it is with us. When we stand in our personal or national "brightness" we can only admire
ourselves. But, when we look from the darkness of the humanity below, we are awe-stricken by the awesome
Majesty of God.
People of old times followed their king because of majesty. Only when they felt more powerful than he
did he have to exert his power over them.
These are some of the reasons we really struggle to comprehend the Majesty of God.
In this lesson, let's look at God's Majesty and see where we are when we do not honor the
Majesty of God.
MAJESTY CARRIES THREE BASIC AREAS OF THOUGHT:
Psalm 29:4; 96:6; 104:1; 145:12.
I Peter 1:16 - Jesus.
Hebrews 1:3; 8:1.
I Chronicles 29:11.
THE PROBLEM OF NOT HONORING GOD'S MAJESTY.
We place ourselves in the place of God. (We want to be God).
Roman Caesuras had this as their goal.
We want control... POWER!
Job 38:1-40:1 - God is clearly the controller.
We deceive ourselves.
We think more of ourselves than we really are.
We set ourselves at the top, therefore, there is nothing to look up to.
We rob God of what belongs totally to Him... MAJESTY!
James 4:13-17 - puts God back at the top.
We perpetuate a society of, not only "non-believers," but "can't-believers."
There is nothing greater than ourselves, we think.
We become a self-willed, powerless church with "NOTHING" to offer to a lost, struggling and dying world.
Revelation 3:14-22 - (16) - they cherished their power, wealth and personal majesty.
We may choose to be a "powerful" society, but with that we will never be able to see the Wonderful Majesty of God.
God is AWESOME! He is the light shining in the midst of the dark dungeon. How can we but adore Him?
How I view God and His majesty depends on how I view myself! Do I make myself more than Him?
