GOD'S LET US PATCH
The Hebrew letter has as its goal, one purpose basically, and that is to stop apostasy -- falling away.
The letter is very beautiful in its presentation of Jesus and His system to be "BETTER" than any other.
Without examples of the past, Jesus and His superior system would be meaningless.
The Hebrew writer lends us an encouraging "Let Us" four different times in chapter 4.
"Let Us" includes the writer and all who hear.
Tonight, let's study through "God's Let Us Patch" and see if we can receive the same encouragement as the Hebrews did.
LET US FEAR - 4:1-2.
Discuss the context of how Israel fell because of a lack of faith, because of sin and unbelief. (All the same)
FEAR - Don't be fool hearted - don't take chances.
EXAMPLE - A child walking on a bridge, stay in the center at the command of father, safe - no way to fall; don't get too close to the edge - danger.
Learn to fear God above men, any men.
ISRAEL did not profit because they did not listen - v.2.
Fell in the wilderness - I Cor. 10.
Did not enter the rest - CANAAN.
A sabbath rest for the people of God - vs. 3-8.
Sabbath - only a rest.
V. 9 - remains a rest for God's people.
V. 10 - Christian has a rest - eternity.
LET US GIVE DILIGENCE TO ENTER GOD'S REST - 4:11.
Disobedience is nothing but a lack of faith.
You can't do it by half-way living, giving, studying, attending, praying.
Full service or none.
Remember, God's Word will examine you - vs. 12-13.
No action, or lack of action, is hidden from it.
LET US HOLD FAST OUR CONFESSION - 4:14.
Confession - that Jesus is our Lord and Master.
Our GREAT HIGH PRIEST - the bridge between man and God.
Passed through the heavens - came from heaven and went back as our High Priest.
Touched with our feelings - reachable.
Jesus hurts when we are weak and don't serve Him with our whole heart.
He cares for us when we need help -- helps us overcome sin.
LET US THEREFORE DRAW NEAR - 4:16.
We don't have to fear speaking to God.
We don't have to approach God with ANY fear.
We cannot be arrogant, must be reverent.
Prayer gives us grace and help.
Israel fell in the wilderness because they did not "Let" themselves follow and depend on God totally.
We can make the same mistake that Israel did if we don't "Let" ourselves be in submission to the will of God.
LET US do the things that God would have us do in order to reach the "rest" that is prepared for us.
