HOW TO ACCOMPLISH THE TASK
There are many tasks that people try to perform today.
People of the world are striving for the "better things of life".
They will go to great lengths to perform and accomplish the task they have set for themselves.
The people of God also have a goal to strive for and a task to fulfill. WE WANT TO:
Be holy - "for God is holy" - I Peter 1:16.
Love others - "God is love" - I John 4:7-8.
Learn to teach, preach and help others - I Timothy 4:1-2.
Carry out the great commission - "into all the world" - Matthew 28:18-20.
Grow together as a family - "love the brethren" - I John 3:14ff.
There is a host of other goals that we have.
How can we accomplish the task that is set before us?
Let's notice four things that we can put into practice with awareness that will enable us to perform
whatever task that life puts before us.
WE MUST HAVE A DESIRE.
Before a man will seek - he must want something.
Genesis 3:6 - the woman saw..."
Philippians 1:23 - Paul's desire.
Ecclesiastes 2:10 - Solomon's desire.
Acts 13:7 - the Proconsul (governor of a Senatorial province)
Later became a believer.
If a person has no desire, he will not even begin to:
Strive to grow.
Strive to live holy.
Try to be good stewards for God.
Teach others about Jesus.
Try to "get along" with others.
Desire is the stimulation behind every phase of life.
Christianity - desire to live for God.
Sports - desire to win the prize or fame.
Education - desire to make the grade; learn the information.
Commercial business - desire to make a profit.
WE MUST HAVE DETERMINATION.
Acts 4:13-22 - Peter and John were determined.
We need to make up our minds what we will do.
I Corinthians 2:2 - "For I determined..."
Would not allow himself to be led off the subject that he purposed to proclaim.
Genesis 11:6-7 - tower of Babel.
Had to make up their minds to build a tower.
It was so sure to come to pass that God had to intervene to stop it.
We need to express our determination to others.
We can then put Hebrews 10:24 into effect.
We need to EXHORT one another daily - Hebrews 3:13.
Unless we make up our minds to do something, we will never fulfill our desires.
WE MUST DISPLAY PERSISTENCE.
We want to give up at the first sign of defeat. We must continue in the face of opposition.
Because of pessimism - the tendency to expect the worst outcome.
Mark 2:1-4 - illustrates persistence.
If the first plan doesn't work, let's find another without delay.
Some say, "We have tried that before, it didn't work."
WE MUST HAVE COURAGE.
Courage like the prophets.
Elijah - I Kings 18 - stood against the prophets of Baal.
Daniel - Daniel 4 - had to explain the dream to king Nebuchadnezzar and possibly die.
John the Baptist - Mark 6 - pointed out the unlawful marriage of king Herod resulting in his death.
Courage like the apostles.
Paul - I Corinthians 2:3 - he was fearful, but peristent.
Paul - Galatians 2 - stood and rebuked Peter to his face.
Peter and apostles - Acts 5 - beaten by the council - charged not speak again about Jesus.
Acts 5:42 - everyday, ceased not...
We will always have to face opposition.
The church will.
Each servant will.
Romans 8:33 - "Who shall lay anything to the charge..."
What is your desire?
Do you desire salvation? Only way to obtain it.
Do you desire to really serve God?
How much have you determined to do?
No one will do more than he sets himself to do.
Are you persistent in your sevice to God?
If you fail, do you try again?
How is your courage? Will you stand up for God?
To accomplish the task we must desire with determination to do it or else with a courageously persistent attitude.
