HEAPING UP SINS TO THE LIMIT
I Thessalonians 2:16.
It is often confusing to read of forgiveness of sins and then read a passage like this one.
In order to better understand the teaching behind this kind of terminology it would be good
to investigate it and see if we can find the answer.
By better understanding this terminology it may well help us to understand where our nation,
or any other nation, stands with God.
In this lesson, let's discuss some passages that deal with similar terminology and see what
the Bible has to say about our subject.
THE CONTEXT OF I THESSALONIANS 2:16.
Suffering for the cause of Christ.
By the Jews - (national persecution).
They killed Jesus.
They killed the prophets.
They drove out Christians.
They displeased God and were hostile to all men.
They wanted to keep the Gentiles out of God's favor.
PASSAGES AND EVENTS THAT ILLUSTRATE THIS SAME PROBLEM... SIN.
The flood - Genesis 6:5-7, 11-13.
Judgment on the Amorites - (as promised to Abraham) - Genesis 15:7-16 (16).
Daniel's vision of the four beasts - Daniel 7:1-14.
Lion with wings - Babylon.
Bear with 3 ribs in his mouth - Medo-Persia.
Leopard with 4 wings, 4 heads - (Alexander the Great) - Greece.
Fourth Beast with 10,11 horns, bronze claws and iron teeth - Rome.
The interpretation - Daniel 7:15-28.
Israel - The Jewish nation.
John's testimony - Matthew 3:4-12.
Jesus' testimony - Matthew 23:29-36 - (32).
Peter's testimony - Acts 2:22-23, 36.
Stephen's testimony - Acts 7:1-53 - (51-53).
THE RESULT - JUDGMENT!
The flood - judgment by God with water.
The Amorites - judgment by God with the Israelites.
Fourth Beast - (Rome) - judged by God - (book of Revelation - judgment of the 11th horn of
the 4th beast of Daniel 7).
Israel - judgment by Titus of Rome in AD 70.
When a nation's cup of iniquity gets full, God will bring judgment.
This has happened over and over and is still happening now.
A nation is only as strong as the individuals within it.
A better, safer, judgment-proof nation begins with me - each individual.
If our nation had to be judged on the basis of your character/life, what would the verdict be?
