Most of this material is adapted from a book by Edward Fudge, titled, "The Grace of God."
TWO FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES.
God must punish sin.
Man is a sinner.
Romans 3:10, 23 - "all" - "none"
GRACE IS NOT A LICENSE TO SIN.
The doctrine of "License" says, in effect: "Ignore God's law and count on His grace."
License is a perversion of God's grace.
License ignores God's eternal principles which grow out of His nature.
God demands a sinless life.
God always punishes sin with death.
Grace is not permission to go on sinning.
Not "do as you please."
Grace is not Divine tolerance of sin.
GRACE IS NOT LEGALISM.
Legalism is NOT:
To seek to do God's will accurately and as exactly as possible.
Attempting to serve God as strictly as possible.
Not "law keeping" but "law depending."
Not "doing the law" but "trusting in one's performance for salvation."
The idea that man will be saved because he has a record of obedience that is pleasing to God.
Legalism says, "Keep the rules perfectly and be saved" Good luck!
Fails to see another eternal principle: "The nature of man is to sin."
