CARING FOR THE CHURCH
The problem - Jewish legalism - v.1-5
The council - apostles and elders at Jerusalem - v.6-21
The encouraging letter - v. 22-24
The encouraged church - v. 30-35
Care for the churches - v. 36-41
The question: What would make these men have such an interest in all of these churches?
Our question: What would/could make US have the same kind of interest?
Do we really exhibit a great interest now?
Are we as a group really dedicated to this work?
Are we willing to do any different?
In this lesson, let's look at three points that explain the care these brothers exhibited for these churches.
THERE WAS A SENSE OF OWNERSHIP.
The church belonged to God - God's ownership
Acts 15: 6-11
Personal ownership - Barnabas and Paul
When you pour life/heart into something, you feel ownership
THERE WAS A SENSE OF PLACEMENT.
These men KNEW where they fit in God's plan.
Preaching and teaching - v. 35
Perceptive - v. 36
Commending - v. 40
Strengtheners v. 41
THEY HAD A REAL SENSE OF CONCERN.
They were concerned about their work. v. 36
Willing to go back.
Wanted to "see how they were doing" - personal involvement.
They were concerned, even for the legalistic Jews. 16:1-5
Mother - Jew
Father - Greek (Gentile)
Paul circumcised Timothy to "become all things to all men"
He reduced friction when at all possible.
How can we develop a real caring attitude toward THIS church? Have a sense of:
Ownership - Personal investment of time, talent and resources.
Placement - Know my place, work, ability, talent - use them.
Concern - Be willing to physically and emotionally get involved.
