BROTHER TO BROTHER
Today we have the problem of brothers hating brothers.
Genesis 4:9 - "Am I my brother's keeper?"
We have a responsibility to our brothers. We too are guilty of hating brothers.
We need not only to ask, "Am I my brother's keeper," but also, "Am I my brother's brother?"
Today, let's notice some things about brotherhood in Jesus and realize our relationship "Brother to Brother."
WHO IS MY BROTHER?
Brotherhood - ADELPHOS - "male children of the same parents; people of the same nationality;
persons united by a common interest; persons united by a common calling; disciples of Jesus."
Brotherhood is based on a new birth.
John 3:5 - kingdom - same nationality.
Galatians 3:27 - "in Christ" - a covenant relationship.
I Corinthians 12:12-22 - part of the same family; body.
Those who have accepted the "Lordship of Christ."
Acts 3:36, 41, 42-47.
WHERE IS MY BROTHER?
Some are here today.
Some are where they should not be and need to be found.
We need to find them. Joint responsibility.
WHAT IS MY RESPONSIBILITY TO MY BROTHER?
Galatians 6:1-2 - restore.
Trespass - PARAPTOMTI - a falling aside; a slip, or a lapse.
Restore - KATARTIZETE - to mend; used of mending nets - Matthew 4:21.
Bear his burden.
Bear - BASTAZO - (PAI) - to take up, as picking up something.
Burden - BAROS - (v.2) - a weight; anything pressing on one physically; something that makes a demand of one's resources.
Burden - PHORTION - responsibility; always speaks of something that must be borne (without reference to weight).
NOTE: BAROS deals with weight.
Observe his weakness and strength.
Romans Chs. 14-15.
I Corinthians Chs. 8-11.
Put the brother first - Philippians 2:1-4.
Build him up at every opportunity.
Romans 16 - examples.
Love him --- always - I John 3:15.
I Corinthians 5.
II Thessalonians 3:6, 14-15.
Luke 15 - is Heaven's view of our brethren.
Do you have such a view?
Are you your brother's brother?
